Charles E. Powell Sr., 90, of Nelsonville, passed away Thursday, February 4, 2010 at Hickory Creek Nursing Center in The Plains. He was born September 29, 1919 in Doanville, son of the late Harry and Inda May Cecil Powell. Charles was married to the late Norma Helen Triplett Powell, who passed away December 23, 2009. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary November 19, 2009.

Charles retired in 1976 from Broughton Dairy.

He is survived by sons, Dennis (Brenda) Powell of Germantown, Ohio, Charles E. (Vicki) Powell Jr. of The Plains and Randy (Vicki) Powell of Lebanon, Ohio; daughters, Judy (Larry) McDaniel of Groveport, Nancy (Lewis) Samuels of Dayton and Penny (Bill) Forsyth of Athens; thirteen grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Mildred Parlette of Alexandria, Imogene Triplett of Cincinnati and Mary Lou Triplett of Chauncey and several nieces and nephews.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sister, Lucille Walls; brothers, Fred Powell, Raymond Powell and Leslie Powell and infant brother and sister, Clifford and Margene Powell.

Funeral services will be held 2 P.M., Monday, February 8, 2010 in the Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville with Rev. David Cogar officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, from 12 noon until the time of the service.

The family would like to send a special thanks to the nurses and staff of Hickory Creek Nursing Center for the excellent care of both Norma and Charles.
