Mr. Penrod was a funny, kind, giving teacher who I admired. He gave much more than education to the students! My prayers go out to his family!

Mr. Penrod was most assuredly one of my favorite teachers in elementary. The students at Amanda-Clearcreek were truly blessed to have this man. My prayers go out to his family and close friends. May God's peace be with each of you!

Rowena, I have been thinking of you all week and felt bad I couldn't make it to the funeral home. You and Larry were so dear to me on the mail route out on Bunker Hill Rd., and I will never forget your charm and helpfulness. Larry was a wonderful man, and I know he has left a deep void in your heart.
Thinking of you, with sympathy and love, Cindy Royse, Rt. 1 Mail carrier

The Penrod and Burkybile family friendship began in Casey, IL in the 50's and what a special friendship it has been through the years. Thanks for the memories. Sending our prayers to you in this time of sorrow.

I first met Larry in 1974. Three other teachers and I were hired for the 5th and 6th grade positions that year. Larry was the one that everyone went to for help and advice that year and in the years that followed. He was always there for us. I know I would never have survived that first year without his help and friendship. Whether he knew it or not I tried to emulate him in my teaching. He was the confident, wise down-to-earth teacher that I wanted to be. He and his wife, Rowena took me and many others under their wing. I know many students that Larry taught will mourn his passing. His fairness and common sense approach coupled with his smile and warm sense of humor made working with him a joy.

I first met Larry when I began teaching at Amanda- Clearcreek in 1984. As his across the hall "neighbor", I had the pleasure of watching him impact the lives of many students. To this day, I can still picture him teaching a group of students with a genuine smile on his face. He was always willing to answer my questions and provide help when I needed it. To his family and loved ones, may your memories of shared moments sustain you for time to come.
