Hello Mrs. Emily Harkless, Ricky Harkless and Cindy Hatfield,
I just found your husband and father, James Harkless, obituary online tonight. I am so sorry to learn of his passing. I met James at a Harkless/Moore family reunion, probably 15 years ago near Hocking Hills. He was a wonderful fella and a FIRST COUSIN to my FATHER, EDWARD HARKLESS, who passed away in 1975 at age 61. My dad was the SON of EDWARD CLARENCE HARKLESS, brother to JOHN HARKLESS, who was the father of your husband & father. That would make Ricky & Cindy my 2nd cousins. Your wonderful husband and father, James brought a large photo, perhaps 2 & a half foot high by 2 foot wide, of three young men with him when he came to our reunion. The three young men were JOHN I. HARKLESS (your grandfather) and EDWARD CLARENCE HARKLESS (my grandfather who was killed in a coal mine cave in 1916) and their remaining brother, JAMES MARION HARKLESS. I have photos of your dad JAMES and photos of the photo. I hope you still have the photo, for it is wonderful, and the only photo that I have seen of my grandfather Harkless. I am still looking for a photo of the father of the 3 Harkless brothers in the photo, PHILLIP HARKLESS. My best to you and your families, God Bless You! Your cousin, Eilene Harkless Moore, emoorepho@aol.com Akron, Ohio

Although we've probably never met, I am signing as the daughter of Marcia Ann Harkless Moore. She was the daughter of James and Mae Harkless who lived on Big Four Rd. I am so sorry for your loss. I believe James may have come to some of our (Moore) family reunions.

To the family of "Mr. Harkless",
I am very sorry to hear about the passing of your husband and father.
I drive by your house all the time and think about how nice it is kept and I am always seeing "Mr. Harkless" out in the yard doing something!! He will be greatly missed. For some reason, over all these years, I still called him "Mr. Harkless". Keep the Faith and God will take care of you all.
Love,
Betty Mae (Stover) Hicks

I spent many hours and nights with Rocky when I was growing up, and I always remembered how nice both of his parents were. I was always made to feel comfortable and felt like part of the family when I was there. So sorry Rocky and Cindy. I know your father was a good man and a better father.

I am so saddened to read of Jim's passing. He was a good man who loved his family and his country. I have many memories of him from being a neighbor when I was growing up in Haydenville. I remember him loading a carload of us up on Saturday nights so we could go skating at Dow's, this went on summer , fall, winter and spring. Those were fun times in my life and I'm glad the Harkless family was a part of it. I'm grateful for Jim's service to our nation. Treasure your memories of your loved one and remember you will all be together again someday.
Truly,
Kellie Hinerman Rutter
